These scones are a favourite. Remember to freeze your butter for a hour or more for best results!

  • Cookie sheet


  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 5 tbsp butter, frozen & grated
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup raisins (optional)

Egg Wash (optional)

  • 1 egg beaten, lightly
  • 1 tbsp milk


  • Sift together flour, white sugar, baking powder and salt
  • Grate frozen butter and cut in with a pastry cutter (or knife or fork or your hands). While mixing, add raisins if you want.
  • Stir in milk and sour cream to make dough
  • Place dough in a shallow pan and allow to chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes
  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg and 1 tbsp of milk to create an egg wash
  • Remove dough from refrigerator and cut into desired shape
  • Brush the tops of the scone with the egg wash
  • Bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees F or until golden brown
  • Move to wire rack for cooling


Serve with whipped butter or jam. Enjoy!
To make whipped butter use 1/4 cup milk + 1/2 cup butter, softened. Whip until the volume of butter expands.
