Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 5 tbsp butter, frozen & grated
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1/3 cup raisins (optional)
Egg Wash (optional)
- 1 egg beaten, lightly
- 1 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Sift together flour, white sugar, baking powder and salt
- Grate frozen butter and cut in with a pastry cutter (or knife or fork or your hands). While mixing, add raisins if you want.
- Stir in milk and sour cream to make dough
- Place dough in a shallow pan and allow to chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg and 1 tbsp of milk to create an egg wash
- Remove dough from refrigerator and cut into desired shape
- Brush the tops of the scone with the egg wash
- Bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees F or until golden brown
- Move to wire rack for cooling
Notes
Serve with whipped butter or jam. Enjoy!
To make whipped butter use 1/4 cup milk + 1/2 cup butter, softened. Whip until the volume of butter expands.
