Have you been looking for a fajita spice mix that you can make yourself? You’ve finally found it!
This spice mix can be made before you are ready to prepare your chicken fajitas OR you can make it up in a larger batch and save it in a labelled mason jar for future use.
This spice mix can be used in a variety of recipes, such as
Chicken Chipotle Fajitas – fajitas made with a chipotle twist
Black Bean Floutas – (coming sooon!) floutas with a chipotle fajita spice
Ingredients for Chipotle Fajita Spice Mix
- Chili powder OR Chipotle chile powder (4 tsp)
- Ground cumin (2 tsp)
- Smoked paprika (2 tsp)
- Salt (2 tsp)
- Sugar (2 tsp)
- Garlic powder (1 tsp)
- Dried onion OR onion powder (1 tsp)
- Cayenne powder (1/2 tsp)
Instructions for Making the Spice Mix
Mix all of the listed ingredients together and either store in an air tight container for use later or make Chicken Chipotle Fajitas immediately!

Chicken Chipotle Fajita Seasoning
Equipment
- Cast Iron Skillet (if available)
Ingredients
Chipotle Chicken Fajita Spice Mix
- 4 tsp Chili powder OR Chipotle chile powder
- 2 tsp Ground cumin
- 2 tsp Smoked paprika
- 2 tsp Salt
- 2 tsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
- 1 tsp Dried onion OR onion powder
- 1/2 tsp Cayenne powder
Chicken Fajitas
- 3 tbsp Olive oil
- 4 Chicken breasts, boneless, skinless
- 3 Sweet bell peppers (1 each – red, yellow, green)
- 1 Onion, sliced
- 1 pkg Soft tortilla shells
- 1/3 cup Fajita spice mix (listed above)
- Various toppings
Instructions
- Mix the spices together and either store in an air-tight container for later use, OR make Chicken Chipotle Fajitas immediately
How to Make Chicken Fajitas
- Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a large, non-stick pan/skillet on medium-high heat
- Add chopped chicken breasts and stir fry until cooked (approx. 5 minutes)
- Set cooked chicken aside on a clean plate
- Heat 2 tbsp of oil in the same large, non-stick pan/skillet on medium-high heat and add chopped bell peppers (red, yellow, green), chopped onion, and prepared seasoning
- Stir fry until vegetables are cooked to your liking (approx. 5 minutes)
- Add cooked chicken to skillet once again, until heated and flavoured with the vegetable and seasoning mix
- Remove from heat and divide evenly over tortilla shells
- Top with your favourite fajita toppings (shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, sour cream, thinly diced scallions, salsa, etc.)
