
Okay, let’s get started! Rinse your fresh broccoli under cool running water and prepare your heavy bottomed saucepan for steaming. Broccoli is such a vibrant colour of green when it’s steamed. Yum! Steam the broccoli until fork tender then remove from heat. You can then arrange it in a greased casserole dish while you work on the rest of the ingredients.


Make a White Roux
Using the saucepan that the broccoli was steamed in, melt the butter and whisk in flour to create a white roux. You’ll see that the flour doesn’t incorporate well until it is whisked in.
The flour acts to thicken the butter. This flour to liquid ratio will yield a thick sauce for this dish.
Continue whisking as you add the soup base and milk to the pot. Stir frequently as you heat this mixture to avoid burning the sauce.


Put the casserole dish aside while you prepare the stuffing according to the package and chop the walnuts for the topping.
Spoon the stuffing mix over the broccoli and sauce, then sprinkle chopped walnuts on top and bake covered as directed in the recipe below.

This side dish is the perfect accompaniment to any turkey or roasted chicken dinner. It's the perfect blend of broccoli, white sauce and stuffing.
- 1 head of Broccoli
- 4 Tbsp Butter
- 4 Tbsp All purpose flour
- 2 Tsp Soup base (chicken or vegetable)
- 2 Cups Milk
- 1 Pkg Stuffing (prepared as per directions)
- 2/3 Cup Walnuts (chopped)
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 1/2 Tsp Pepper
In a saucepan, steam broccoli until tender
Grease casserole dish
When broccoli is cooked, place in a single layer in casserole dish
In the same saucepan, melt butter and whisk in flour to create a white roux
Add soup base and whisk to incorporate
Slowly add milk and whisk altogether until smooth
Bring this white sauce to a low boil and simmer for 4 to 5 minutes to thicken
Pour white sauce over broccoli in casserole dish
Prepare stuffing according to the package
Cover broccoli and white sauce mixture in cooked stuffing
Sprinkle with chopped walnuts
Bake covered for 15 to 20 minutes at 400 degrees F
